Project Description
Archive of the Nearly Lost
This website is an interactive archive for graphic nerds. More precisely, for people who already care about plants, or who are about to. It playfully explores local ecology, inviting users to learn, click around, and get a little more entangled with the plant world along the way. Through layered interactions and curious details, it turns ecological awareness into something engaging, slightly nerdy, and genuinely fun.

Each plant is labeled with its conservation status based on California Department of Fish and Wildlife rankings, and visitors can use filters to explore how different species are faring across the state. Rather than functioning as a static database, the archive combines scientific information with curious facts and reflective prompts, while a network feature allows visitors to leave notes about their own encounters with these plants, gradually forming a shared layer of memory within the archive.

A vivid and playful color palette adds energy to what could otherwise feel like a dry index or archive. Bright hues create a lively browsing experience while keeping the interface visually engaging.

Color also functions as a visual labeling system. Each conservation status is assigned a distinct color, allowing visitors to quickly identify threat levels while adding clarity and detail to the archive.
